This grounded theory research aimed to determine the rationale of parents of children with autism spectrum disorder(ASD) for choosing pseudo-therapy. About 39 participants including parents, professionals, or persons with disabilities were recruited for this study. The results revealed various internal and external factors. Internal factors included psychological factors (guilt, helplessness, shame, self-preservation, impatience, anxiety, fear, hope, etc.), personality factors (belief in alternative therapies, devotion, following others, etc.), knowledge factors (negative perception of disability, lack of information, belief in cure, blind belief on therapist, etc.), economic factors (affluence), and disability perception (negativity, abhorrence, perception of disability as a disease, etc.). External factors included disability characteristics (mild, morphology, no speech, etc.), family dynamics (only child, first child, grandparents, etc.), marketing and fake news (disability cure, emphasis on critical period, counseling, etc.), institutional factors (low quality), system factors (long waits, lack of public information, easy certification, etc.), and cultural factors (culture of hagwon). These factors interacted with each other and resulted in desperation, false hope, deification of therapist, and enhanced difficult in accepting the disability.
